VTV.vn - Take a step into the light, the darkness will be left behind. With their beautiful deeds, characters of kindness have brought light into many less fortunate lives.

"One Step Toward the Light" will also be the theme of the October edition of Deeds of Kindness. The program, in collaboration with THACO - Truong Hai Group Joint Stock Company, aims to honor "warm and benevolent sources of light."

Fas Angel - Angels of Darkness

When the city lights up, they gather and roam the streets to support those unlucky enough to suffer traffic accidents or mishaps on the streets of Hanoi.

The leader of this special rescue team is Mr. Pham Quoc Viet (born 1987). Mr. Viet said he was once "abandoned" when he suffered a traffic accident that took place many years ago in Tuyen Quang province. There were many people on the road but no one stopped to help. It took him a long time until a passerby stopped and took him to the emergency room, an act he will always remember and be grateful for.

That fateful accident made him decide to leave his job in the media to form the rescue team Angel FAS (Angel de Apoyo en Primeros Auxilios). During the day he works as a motorcycle cab driver and at night he and his members roam the streets to support those unlucky enough to suffer traffic accidents or mishaps on the streets of Hanoi.

Founded in 2019, to date the team has about 90 people. On average, every day, the team can handle 3 to 9 cases of traffic accidents on public roads.

Especially in the apartment fire in Khuong Dinh neighborhood, Thanh Xuan, Hanoi in September 2023, FAS Angel was quickly present to join the fire police force to rescue the victims.

Salon accepting hair donations in Ho Chi Minh City

Seven years ago, a customer walked into Nguyen Anh Tuan's salon (District 3, Ho Chi Minh City) and asked to have her hair cut to prepare for a fight against cancer.

He didn't expect that four years later, the woman sitting in the chair with the same request would be his mother. This time, Mr. Tuan burst into tears.

From the incident that happened to his mother, Mr. Tuan opened the first hair salon in Vietnam to help cut hair to donate, preserve and transport it to a hair storage for cancer patients. After donating hair, customers will receive a 50% discount on the salon's hairdressing services.

Over the past three years, Mr. Tuan has received hundreds of donated hairs. Each hair will be washed, dried, sorted by length, stored and then transported to the Vietnam Breast Cancer Network at the end of the month.

Home to 500 children with special needs

For nearly 30 years, Anh Sang (Light) Shelter (address 80/76, Tran Quang Dieu Street, District 14, Ward 3, Ho Chi Minh City) has been raising hundreds of wandering, homeless, poor and orphaned children and helping them become useful people for society.

Mr. Nguyen Thien Hai (born in 1974), whose hometown is in Ha Tinh Province, is the main contributor to the maintenance and development of this orphanage. When he moved from his hometown to Ho Chi Minh City in 1995, Mr. Hai volunteered to join the army. Three years later, Mr. Hai was discharged and returned to Ho Chi Minh City. Not knowing whether to continue his studies or look for a suitable job, he followed an acquaintance to do home repairs, and that place was Refuge Light. At that time, the orphanage had just been established and had only a dozen children and no teachers. So Mr. Hai quickly accepted the job. Little did he know that this small house would become the place where he would spend most of his life.

In many different ways, the characters in Deeds of Kindness have created a source of light and shone that light into dark lives. Let's follow their story in October's Deeds of Kindness: A Step into the Light, airing Saturday (October 14) at 8:10 pm on VTV1 and the VTVGo app.
