The program introduces audiences to Do Trung Minh, the leader of the Hope band, who has been blind since birth. Born prematurely at just six and a half months, Minh was not as fortunate as his twin brother, who had healthy eyes. His childhood was filled with stumbles, tentative steps, and innocent questions about light, something he has never seen but has always longed to touch.
Had he not been able to attend school, Minh’s life might have remained confined to his home. The turning point came when he enrolled at Nguyen Dinh Chieu School, where he discovered the doors of knowledge, and his remarkable musical talent were open to him. He gradually developed a love for music, picking up melodies by ear from television and radio. Music became his joy, his refuge, and the essential “spiritual nourishment” of each day.
Minh’s journey with music has never been easy. Unable to read sheet music, he learned by memory. Unable to see the piano keys, he relied on touch. Learning to play instruments such as the piano and drums required him to work much harder than othersdid. He had to self-study materials and practice alone. Physical limitations, educational challenges, and moments of self-doubt once stood as significant barriers, yet music helped him overcome them and keep moving forward with steadfast faith.
Driven by their passion, Minh and his friends formed the Hope band, a name that reflects their desire for a brighter future not only for themselves but also for those in needs motivation. Performing on stages, along Trang Tien walking street, and in everyday spaces has brought Minh’s music closer to the public, spreading positive energy and a belief in life.
During the program, Minh amazed viewers by taking on a live song-request challenge, performing everything from familiar tunes to pieces with high ranges and complex rhythms. A particular highlight was when he tackled a Korean song, handling a language he had studied for only a year, purely through memory and musical perception. Without lyrics or sheet music, he sang with intense focus and sincerity, winning over the audience with his courage to test and surpass his own limits.
Beyond performing, Minh has long-term musical ambitions: he wants to compose his own songs, conquer bigger stages, and continuing to inspire the community with positivity. For him, living with passion is already a blessing, and having the support of others to pursue it is even more precious.
