In the challenging flow of life, sometimes all one desires is a moment of peace. We often think peace lies in distant places, but in reality, it can be found in simple and sincere actions. The warm journey of Binh An is the embodiment of a heart that constantly spreads peace.
Since childhood, Binh An has lived in darkness. Cataracts have robbed him of his sight. His world consists only of faint sounds and blurred images from his memory. Both Binh An and his mother are visually impairedand live together in a dilapidated and dark hous. Light, for Binh An, was a distant dream. His childhood passed quietly, filled with a longing to see the outside world just once.
At the age of 8, a small glimmer of hope appeared in Binh An’s life when his family received help from a benefactor. Mother and son journeyed to Hanoi, filled with the belief that light would return to his eyes. However, fate seemed to mock him, as the surgery didn’t produce the expected results. When the bandages were removed, Binh An felt as if his world had collapsed. His world remained shrouded in darkness, full of disappointment and despair.
After some time, Binh An’s mother enrolled him in Nguyen Dinh Chieu School, a welcoming place for visually impaired students. At just 8 years old, Binh An had to live away from home and learn to take care of himself. Despite his blindness, his thirst for knowledge drove him to find ways to access learning. He would often ask his classmates to read the lessons aloud and copy down what was written on the blackboard. He listened carefully to every word, every letter, trying to memorize as much as possible. At home, he replayed the tapes of the lessons over and over again to deepen his understanding.
This determination helped Binh An secure a place at university, gradually shedding his shy demeanor and choosing to integrate into his new environment by actively connecting with those around him. In 2020, Binh An became a psychology student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi. However, no matter how hard he tried, his physical impairment remained his greatest obstacle to fully fitting into university life. He had to confront discrimination, doubted his abilities, and felt insecure in the face of pitying looks.
Sleepless nights filled with thoughts of the challenges faced by the visually impaired led Binh An to dream of becoming a psychologist, someone who could understand and help those in similar situations. For years, he maintained an excellent academic record. Binh An became not only an outstanding student but also an active social activist. He served as vice president of the Hoa Da Club, where visually impaired young people could connect, share, and support one another through difficulties. Binh An was also actively involved in activities with various organizations such as the Ha Nam Association for the Blind, the Hanoi Disabled Students Club, and the Vietnam Blind Students Network.
Having experienced the difficulties faced by the visually impaired, Binh An dreams of opening a psychological center, a place where blind individuals can find comfort, support, and useful advice. He hopes the center will not only provide essential services but also help break down the psychological and social barriers often encountered by this group. The gift from the Station of Love will help Binh An come closer to his dream.
Binh An has proven that disability is not a barrier to success. With extraordinary determination and a warm heart, he has overcome all challenges to pursue his dream.
