Within a short period, two consecutive storms, Matmo and Bualoi, made landfall, bringing historic floods that left many provinces in Central and Northern Vietnam submerged. Hundreds of thousands of homes were swallowed up by floodwaters, properties were swept away, and tragically, many lives were lost. Yet amid the devastation, somethings that remain unshaken: the love, kindness, and unity that bind the Vietnamese people together. Even amid the endless waters, small lights of humanity shine brightly as hands reach out to hands and hearts stand together to help one another rise after the storm.
To lend strength to those affected by the aftermath, on the evening of October 15, the Youth Union of Vietnam Television (VTV), in collaboration with the Vietnam Heart Foundation and VTV, will hold a special program titled Stand with Our Compatriots - Joining Hands with VTV Youth for Flood-Affected Communities 2025. This event will give audiences the opportunity to meet the frontline forces who have been risking their lives in the heart of the storm but also a night that honors the spirit of solidarity, compassion, and the unyielding flame of faith that has always burned within the Vietnamese people.
Divided into three parts, the special program will present authentic footage from various provinces hit by the two recent storms. Audiences will witness powerful, real-life scenes of the floods and hear deeply moving stories from those who were there, rescuing, supporting, and standing side by side with flood victims in their most difficult moments. Guests will include Colonel Nguyen Ba Duc, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Air Regiment 916 under the 371st Air Division, Air Defense - Air Force Service, and Ha Minh Tan, Captain of the “Zero-Cost Rescue Team” from Phu Tho Province.
While the floods washed away homes and belongings, they cannot extinguish the will torecover and the hope of a better future. The program will also highlight stories of extraordinary resilience, especially the efforts of teachers and pupils in flooded areas who are rebuilding schools and providing education for children. Nguyen Thi Bich Hue, Principal of La Nhan Kindergarten in Ha Tinh Province, will share the inspiring stories of teachers who have overcome personal adversity to clean and restore classrooms, rekindling their students' dreams.
In addition, Stand with Our Compatriots will feature a ssegment honouring and announcing the list of organizations, businesses, and benefactors who have partnered with the Vietnamese Loving Heart Fund and VTV to support flood-affected communities.
