VTV.vn - The Mekong Delta region's Khmer folk singing festival opened in Soc Trang province on April 4th drawing the participation of students, amateur artists, and artisans from regional localities.

The event gave amateur singers the chance to share and promote the traditional culture of the Khmer people through folk songs and musical performances. Out of the 125 performances, 99 performances involved folk singing, 12 involved dancing, and 14 were musical instruments performances.

There are around 1.2 million Khmer people living in the nearly 10 Mekong River Delta provinces and cities. Soc Trang has the most people with over 400,000, accounting for nearly 31% of the population, distributed equally in all districts, towns and cities.

These days, all the roads from the city to the countryside are vibrant with colourful flowers and flags.

The event will last until April 9th.
