This poses a major challenge for APEC economies to focus on the education and training of new skills, ensuring social security for people against the adverse effects of technological progress.
At the APEC workshop on skills training and social protection for people in the digital age, held today (Friday) in Hanoi, the delegates affirmed that there will be a great shift in labour force, with many occupations disappearing and new jobs emerging.
In parallel with that is the problem of improving people's quality of life. All participants agreed that social security programs need to be changed in the digital age, to adapt to demographic and economic changes and ensure that no one is left behind due to the influence of technology.
