Singaporean PM and his spouse pay official visit to Vietnam

VTV.vn - Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his spouse are paying an official visit to Vietnam from August 27-29 at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

The Singaporean PM is accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Education Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry Tan See Leng, Singaporean Ambassador to Vietnam Jaya Ratnam, among others.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was born on February 10, 1952. He graduated with a B.A. in Mathematics and a Diploma in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge. He was later a Mason Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School, receiving a Master’s in Public Administration.

From 1971 to 1984, he served in the Singapore Armed Forces and retired as a Brigadier-General.

Also in 1984, he became a member of Parliament and was re-elected in 1988, 1991, 1997, 2001, 2006 and 2011.

He was Minister of State for the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and Ministry of Defence in 1985, and then served as Minister for Trade and Industry, Second Minister for Defence.

He became a member of the Central Executive Committee of the People's Action Party (PAP) in 1986 and assumed the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry in 1990.

He chaired the government's economic committee in 1994 and was concurrently Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore in 1998.

He worked as Minister for Finance from 2001 to 2007. Since 2004, he has been Singapore’s Prime Minister and the Secretary-General of the PAP.
