VTV.vn - 22/6/2021 is considered a milestone of a campaign launched by Ministry of Public Security, as it announced the official operation of the national database on population, and the chip-based citizen ID card issuance and management system.

Up until now, the local police have collected and synchronised, into the national database on population, more than 102 million population information collection forms from various sources; as well as directed the local units to review and “clean” data on the software system and consolidate record archives for over 98 million people.

At the same time, in regards to cleaning the population database, the Ministry of Public Security has issued identification numbers to citizens nationwide on the system, which is an important basis for the establishment of electronic citizen identification, contributing to the implementation of national digital transformation.

For the campaign to issue chip-based citizen ID cards, the Ministry of Public Security has completed the collection about 63 million documents, printed and returned more than 50 million ID cards to citizens.

With the above results, the “heart” of the Digital Government has initially been shaped quite clearly. After completing the collection of population data, the Ministry of Public Security has actively exploited and promoted its effectiveness, right in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic over recent times, especially connecting the national database on population with the database on vaccination, testing and management of people infected with COVID-19, to uniformly deploy the application of QR codes on ID cards in order to effectively serve the investigation, management and treatment of COVID-19.

Up to now, the national database on population is ready to connect with ministries, departments, branches and localities.

In the long term, people, businesses, ministries and branches still expect more from the utilities and obvious improvements brought on by the national database on population. Because it will help simplify administrative procedures as well as promote the effectiveness of the digital transformation process, which is performed by the Government.

For example, the national database on population will facilitate the re-issuance of lost birth certificates for people, with more simplified procedures. It can be seen that the smallest step should be implemented before thinking about bigger and long-term plans.

In the coming days, the Ministry of Public Security needs to implement the "targets" that Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam set out at the conclusion on the development of the national database on population to serve the national digital transformation and economic development.

That is the selection of a number of essential online public services at level four, to prioritise the uniform and synchronous implementation, and connect to the National Public Service Portal, authenticate people's information based on the national database on population.

Ministries, branches and localities should also exert more efforts to implement synchronously and strive to provide all eligible online public services at level four within the year 2022, to serve people and businesses.

The requirements of the Deputy Prime Minister are also the common aspirations of people and businesses, expecting the operations of the national database on population.
