The event came within the Water Smart Engagements programme, which aims to establish long-term relationships between ASEAN and US utilities to foster communication and build capacity.
During the working visit, SAWACO and SFPUC shared information and measures to deal with the challenges in the extraction and management of surface and groundwater, as well as make plans to cope with climate change and ensure a secure water supply.
The SFPUC delegation visited the Thu Duc Water Plant - Ho Chi Minh City’s largest water processing plant - to learn about its system which processes water from the Dong Nai River.
The delegation also worked with the Tri An Hydropower Company to learn about the coordination mechanism between the company and SAWACO in managing the water quality of the Dong Nai River.
SAWACO informed the US side about its strategy to cope with climate change, while SFPUC presented the standards for formulating climate change response plans in the US state of California.
