Sex education remains a sensitive topic and low awareness can make children prone to become victims. In an integrated campaign to prevent child abuse, the first handbook on how to talk to children about body boundaries and sexual abuse was published at Trung Hoa Secondary School in Hanoi. The handbook was titled Respect! My body!
Nowadays, people are more and more open about sex. Still, it's not an easy topic to talk among family members. For the first time, a parents' handbook on talking to children about sex and body boundaries has been released in Vietnam.
The handbook begins with specific instructions for children from age 1 such as allowing them to be involved in daily body care, explain to them what these actions are, or how to listen to them when they reach their teenage age.
Protecting children even from those they love is something very normal to prevent the danger of sexual abuse.
According to data from the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, in 2016, more than 1,200 cases of child abuse were reported. Proper parental guidance in the family will certainly help children recognise the need to protect themselves.
