Vietnam sensation Nguyen Thi Anh Vien gave a sign of things to come on the first day of the SEA Games swimming competition when she broke the first Games record in the heats on Saturday morning.

The 18-year-old timed 4min43.93sec in heat two of the 400m individual medley at the OCBC Aquatic Centre, comfortably lowering her previous Games mark of 4:46.16 set in 2013 in Myanmar.

There were no casualties on Singapore's side. Tan Jing-E and Quah Jing Wen finished 4th and 5th overall in the 400m IM heats and will join Anh Vien in the final.

Quah Zheng Wen swam within himself, hardly breaking a sweat as he comfortably made the 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke finals. Danny Yeo joins him in the 200 free final, while Zach Ong also made the 100m back final.

The 18-year-old Zheng Wen will need to be at his best to overcome Indonesia's I Gede Siman Sudartawa in the backstroke, while Malaysia's Welson Sim will be the favourite in the 200m free.

Chloe Wang timed 9:11.32 in the 800m free final 1. Her final position will be determined after final 2 in the evening.
