VTV.vn - The scorching hot weather continues to bake the Northern provinces today, June 12, but it is forecast to come to an end tomorrow, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF).

However, the current extreme hot weather in the Central provinces is likely to last for several more days to come.

Yesterday, intense heat occurred widely in the Central region with a highest common temperature of 35-38C, even above 38C in some places, while the northern midland and delta regions suffered from a highest common temperature of 34-37C.

The same heat is forecast for today in both the northern and central regions, with the lowest relative humidity at 45-55% and the period with temperatures at above 35C lasting from 10-18 hours.

The national weather service also warned of heavy rains, thunderstorms, hail and strong winds in the North from the evening of June 13 to 15, in which the northern mountainous and midland regions may suffer from heavy rainfall of up to 150mm a day concentrated at night and in the morning.

The NCHMF also warned the northern mountainous provinces, especially Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Cao Bang, Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang, of a high risk of flash floods and landslides, while low-lying floods may occur in urban areas, especially in the cities of Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang and Hanoi.

Earlier this morning, the weather agency released information about a current tropical depression which has passed Luzon Island (Philippines) to enter the East Sea. Over the next 24 hours, the tropical depression will move in a northwest direction, traveling at about 15 km per hour and potentially gaining the power to become a typhoon.

By 07:00 on June 13, the location of the storm is forecast to be about 470km from Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago to the northeast, packing winds blowing at 60-90km per hour.

All boats operating in the northern part of the East Sea (including the sea north of the Paracel Archipelago) are at high risk.
