VTV.vn - President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in announced on September 21 that ROK will donate more than 1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to Vietnam, which will be delivered in mid-October.

Presidential spokeswoman Park Kyung-mee said the above plan was proposed by the ROK leader during his talks with Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc in New York on the sidelines of the General Debate of the UN General Assembly’s 76th session.

The ROK President affirmed that the two countries have made efforts to overcome the epidemic together from the early stages as well as shared related medical supplies.

These will be the first vaccines offered by ROK to a foreign country, in addition to ROK’s financial support for developing countries via the COVAX Facility.

Giving thanks to the ROK for the much-needed assistance, President Phuc said the two countries need to soon hold the virus at bay to promote their strategic partnership more widely and comprehensively, particularly as they are celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.

In particular, President Moon Jae-in asked Vietnam to assist in ensuring the safety and protection of ROK citizens and businesses in Vietnam. The two sides also exchanged views on the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and agreed to establish and maintain close partnership relations.
