VTV.vn - The Government of the Republic of Korea (RoK) will provide a non-refundable aid package of 500,000 USD to improve living and learning environments for ethnic minority students in the northern province of Yen Bai.

A memorandum of understanding on the aid package was signed between the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs, and the People’s Committee of Yen Bai Province on April 13.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs Hau A Lenh stated that the contributions of the RoK Government, the RoK Embassy in Vietnam, KOICA Vietnam, and the RoK business community are of significance to the Vietnamese government in solving socio-economic problems and improving the living standards of Vietnamese people.

“This is a good deed of the RoK government and the RoK Embassy, especially KOICA Vietnam, which directly supports students in ethnic minority areas in Yen Bai Province to have better facilities to learn and improve their knowledge,” said Hau A Lenh.

RoK Ambassador Oh Young Ju said that the RoK government has been constantly promoting ODA projects to contribute to improving income, medical examination and treatment, quality of education, and nutrition and healthcare for ethnic minority children in Vietnam through KOICA non-refundable projects.

The RoK expects that this project will be an exemplary project supporting the efforts of students and future generations of Vietnam for a better life.

The RoK government through KOICA and the Save the Children International implemented the project on “Improving school readiness and learning outcomes of ethnic minority children in Vietnam” in 14 preschools and primary schools in the districts of Van Chan and Mu Cang Chai in Yen Bai Province with a total cost of over 27 billion VND.

The 500,000 USD aid package aims to improve the effectiveness of the project implemented in the previous phase while improving the living and learning environment of ethnic minority students, according to Vice Chairman of the Yen Bai Provincial People’s Committee Ngo Hanh Phuc.
