The comments were made at a recent dialogue on climate change and clean energy held by European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam and EU-Vietnam Business Network in Hanoi on Monday. Mary Robinson, UN Special Envoy for Climate Change, said that developing countries like Vietnam had more difficulties in climate change mitigation than developed countries as they still have to use fossil energy to ensure GDP growth.
However, participants at the dialogue said that Vietnam could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by 2030 instead of the more modest 8%, if the country received support from other countries and the business community.
