Quang Ninh put ups commemorative plaque in square honouring coal miners
VTV.vn - Cam Pha City in the northern province of Quang Ninh held a ceremony on May 19 to unveil a commemorative plaque on November 12 Square and a monument honouring all Vietnamese coal miners.

The project to expand the November 12 Square to 5.9 hectares began in late 2019 at a total cost of nearly 100 billion VND (4.3 million USD).

The highlight of the square is a 15.5 metre tall bluestone monument entitled “Glory to the Vietnamese Coal Miners”.

The square is the venue for important political events, cultural festivals and the entertainment activities of the people of Cam Pha City.

On November 12, 1936, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, a general strike took place there with the participation of over 30,000 Cam Pha coal miners, who demanded the French raise wages and reduce working times.

Later, November 12 was chosen as the traditional day of both coal miners and the coal mining sector.
