Due to its display on the evolution of terrestrial ecosystems, and its habitat promoting biodiversity conservation, the heritage site met two more criteria required for a second form of UNESCO recognition. This honor does not only pertain to the environment in Phong Nha Ke Bang, but also notes the efforts that local authorities and communities have made in the conservation process.
Dubbed the world’s kingdom of caves, Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park plays an important role in developing the tourism industry in Quang Binh Province. The province expects to receive more than 3 million tourists this year, opening new business opportunities in several sectors.
On this occasion, Quang Binh Province also started the Cave Festival 2015. The festival’s highlight is Discovery Week, which introduces an array of magnificent caves in the province to domestic and international friends.
