VTV.vn - Minister of Public Security To Lam has stated that adding the place of birth to the personal details page on passports will make it easier for Vietnamese citizens to apply for visas in countries that require such information.

He told the parliament on November 7 that after Vietnam released the new design of its ordinary passports in July, some countries announced that they would temporarily not issue visas for the new passports, citing the absence of the place of birth.

To resolve the issue, the Government directed the Ministry of Public Security and Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to add the place of birth to the observations page on the new passports.

However, foreign countries will only accept such an addition temporarily and asked Vietnam to soon include the place of birth on the personal details page.

The Czech Republic even announced that the acceptance is only valid until the end of 2022.

Therefore, Minister Lam stated that the inclusion of the place of birth on the personal details page of passports is necessary and urgent, adding that this will not incur additional procedures and costs.

Commenting on the report presented by Minister Lam, Chairman of the National Assembly Committee for Defence and Security Le Tan Toi agreed with the need to add the place of birth to the personal details page of the new passports.

He added that such content will be included in the common resolution of the National Assembly’s fourth plenary session.
