Hanoi will be celebrating Earth Hour from 20:00 to 21:30 on March 30 at the Cách Mạng Tháng Tám Square in the city's downtown Hoàn Kiếm district. Lighting, decorations, and advertisements will be turned off at many landmarks, popular sites and public spaces around the Hoan Kiem Lake, the Hanoi Opera House, Truc Bach Lake and at the buildings of the municipal authorities.
Last year, turning off lights for one hour saved Vietnam 485,000 kilowatt hours or about 36,000 US dollars.
Earth Hour is a worldwide movement that is organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature and has been described as the largest grassroots movement for the environment.
