VTV.vn - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on November 6 visited an exhibition of People’s Artist, Assc. Prof., Dr. Ngo Manh Lan, which is taking place at the Vietnam Fine Arts University in Hanoi.

The Government leader was accompanied by Politburo member, Minister of Public Security, General To Lam.

Entitled ‘Net Thoi Gian’ (Strokes of Time), the exhibition displays more than 200 sketches by painter Ngo Manh Lan from 1950 up to now. Some of them were created in Russia, where Lan studied in the 1950s.

The sketches feature milestones in the country’s history and culture, including the Dien Bien Phu campaign, the national anti-US war, and life during the subsidy period.

While admiring works on display, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said he was impressed by the exhibits, which recalls the national defence and construction.

He hailed that the sketches not only vividly feature the life of soldiers and ethnic minority groups but also convey the painter’s humane and optimistic look towards the future.

The exhibition will be open to public until November 10 at the Vietnam Fine Arts University, 42 Yet Kieu street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi.

Born in Hanoi in 1934, Ngo Manh Lan entered the first revolutionary fine arts training course taught by the acclaimed Vietnamese painter To Ngoc Van at the Viet Bac military base between 1950 to 1954.

He continued his studies at the Department of Animation at the Soviet Union National University of Cinematography in Moscow from 1956-1962, then returned to Vietnam and worked at the Vietnam Film Studio. He was awarded the title of ‘People’s Artist’ in 1997 and the State Awards for Literature and the Arts in 2007.
