VTV.vn - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung met with Vietnamese businessmen operating in Laos on Monday as part of his official visit to the country. He has urged further investment into Vietnam’s neighbour.

Since early this year, 8 more Vietnamese businesses have been licensed to invest in Laos with total capital of over 95 million USD. The projects are mainly in the field of hydropower, infrastructure services and industrial plants. Around 5.22 billion USD from Vietnam has been channelled into 261 projects in Laos, the largest destination for outbound Vietnamese investment.

This investment can be added to the 200 million USD recorded in 2014 and an estimated 260 million USD in 2015 to the Lao budget while creating jobs for more than 30,000 local residents. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung praised the Vietnamese community’s efforts, making Vietnam the second largest investor in Laos, saying investment and trade had added mutual benefit to the traditional ties between the two countries.

During a meeting, the two prime ministers worked on each project to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese investors in Laos. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung urged Vietnamese investors to send proposals to the Vietnamese government to bolster investment in the country.
