This new mechanism has recently been implemented across all major sectors of the economy allowing enterprises to participate in one-stop shop customs online services, providing instant connectivity with licensing officers at relevant ministries.
In the past, to acquire an import licence, a company had to go through several steps with the Department of Register, Department of Customs and Customs at border gates. This process could take up to 15 days and cost a lot. However, now with the new system, dozens of required customs forms can be submitted online and the approval process only takes a couple of days. The process is now much faster and also costs less.
Vietnam Customs have implemented the one-stop shop model in 9 ministries, including the Ministry of Transport, Industry and Trade, Health, Science and Technology, Agriculture, Natural Resources and National Defence. Over 2,000 enterprises have participated in the model. The model will soon to be extended to the finance sector with the participation of banks in order to provide online customs services at the highest level.
The one-stop shop model is a result from the government’s multiple efforts to reform the business and administrative environment to support not only import and export enterprises but also other firms in the business community. It is estimated that Vietnam’s economy will save about 14 billion dollars on administration thanks to one-stop shop customs.
