President Obama's speech on Vietnam-US relations

VTV.vn - On May 24, US President Barack Obama delivered remarks on Vietnam-US relations at the Vietnam National Convention Centre reviewing milestones and substantial progress between the two countries over recent years.

President Obama mentioned differences between the US and Vietnam and solutions and put forth orientations to boost bilateral cooperation and development in the time ahead.

The event attracted some 2,000 people including intellectuals, students, young entrepreneurs, and representatives from relevant ministries and agencies.

His talk began after the welcome speech of President of Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisation (VUFO) Vu Xuan Hong.

Earlier on May 23, President Obama announced the decision to fully lift the ban on lethal arms sales to Vietnam. According to him the move aims to complete the normalisation of relations between the two countries.

The world media considered it a “historic decision” which was of great significance to shape the future relationship between the two sides.
