The programme, held jointly by the Vietnam Border Guard High Command and the Kien Giang Provincial People’s Committee, aimed to support ethnic people in the border areas to welcome a warm and joyful Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.
According to the plan, the Vietnam Border Guard High Command coordinated with the Provincial Party Committee and People's Committee to present Tet gifts to policy-beneficiary households and needy families in the border areas and islands of Kien Giang.
In addition to giving shelter and breeding cows to poor households and awarding scholarships to students living in difficult circumstances, the Border Guard High Command and Kien Giang Province also provided free medical examinations and medicine for poor and disadvantaged people.
At the programme, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, President Vo Van Thuong sent his best wishes to the delegates, all officers and soldiers of the Border Guard, and people of all ethnic groups in Kien Giang.
On this occasion, the State leader also presented Tet gifts to policy beneficiaries and students facing challenging conditions.
