Poor rail links mean higher freight costs
VTV.vn - Interlinked regional transport infrastructure is an important factor for economic development.

Railways should be cheaper than transport by road, especially over long distances. But Vietnam's rail freight is currently much more expensive than road freight. The reason for this paradox is the lack rail and road connected links and insufficient rail lines.

Hoàng Diệu in Hai Phong is the only port that has a railway that connects with the port. In 2016, 80 million tonnes of goods were transported to the port, but just a fraction, only 1 million tonnes, was by rail
