The Goddess Ponagar is believed to have taught the local people how to earn a living from trades such as rice cultivation and fabric weaving.
Running from May 5th to 8th, the festival features folk art performances such as Tuong (classical drama), traditional Cham dances and Chau Van (or spiritual singing) to honour the spiritual culture of the Cham people in the South Central region.
Ponagar Tower was built and designed in the unique architectural style of the Cham people over 1,200 years ago. The Ponagar Festival was recognised as a national intangible heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2012.
