VTV.vn - Each citizen and each enterprise should establish a “new normal” state in promoting both socio-economic development and COVID-19 prevention and control, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has stressed.

The top leader chaired an online meeting between the Government, the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control and the relevant ministries, agencies and localities on September 11, discussing pandemic prevention and control work.

According to a report from the Ministry of Health, to date, Vietnam has recorded 1,059 cases of COVID-19, of which 402 were imported from abroad. As many as 893 patients have recovered while 35 have died from complications related to the disease. Most of the fatalities were elderly with serious underlying health conditions.

Regarding COVID-19 testing, from July 23 to September 8, 625,431 tests were performed out of a total of 1,063,656 Realtime RT-PCR tests from the beginning of the pandemic in Vietnam, accounting for 58.8%. Currently, the total number of people tested is 1,239,174.

PM Phuc said that over the past nine days, there have been no new infections in the community, while the number of recoveries is increasing every day, clearly showing that Vietnam has controlled the outbreak well once again. Measures have been stepped up to realise the dual goals of both resuming socio-economic activities and ensuring COVID-19 prevention and control in a “new normal”, the leader stated.

He urged more vigilance, especially in the health sector and hospitals, as the pandemic is still complex around the world. He also asked for more timely measures during the realisation of the dual goals, while continuing to fully implement anti-epidemic measures in the new situation under the set guidance of the Ministry of Health.

As Vietnam would soon resume some commercial routes this month, the PM said that for flights from abroad, the resumption should be cautious but not too strict, stressing the need to pay special attention to measures on isolation and testing for entries at their convenience but surely not allowing foreigners carrying pathogens to enter Vietnam causing new outbreaks.

PM Phuc also encouraged the preparation of scenarios in response to pandemic situations occurring in each local unit, as well as creating favourable conditions to promote investment attraction, especially from major partners. He reiterated the importance of facilitating trade and travel for local residents, asking local authorities to not focus only on disease prevention while neglecting economic development.

The PM also assigned specific tasks to the concerned ministries, agencies and localities, especially Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho and neighbouring provinces of the three cities, as well as accommodation establishments, border gates, airports, factories and schools to increase vigilance and strictly comply with epidemic prevention measures.

He tasked the media and local authorities with providing adequate information on the realisation of the dual goals to the public, stressing the need to not delay or disrupt economic activities as an important requirement in the new period, whilst not being caught off guard against the epidemic. Continuing to promote online work in the virtual environment is another important measure in the “new normal” state, he added.

Regarding the current bailout package to support those in difficulty due to COVID-19, the PM asked the concerned agencies to soon submit to the Government plans regarding the second phase of this package, including its extension.
