VTV.vn - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked the relevant ministries to mull over the reopening of cinemas nationwide, in line with the COVID-19 situation throughout Vietnam.

The request came following a proposal by cinema chains to allow movie theatres in the capital of Hanoi to reopen as Vietnam has entered a new phase in the fight against the pandemic.

Cinema operators stated that during the Lunar New Year, people will have a high demand for enjoying culture, arts and entertainment programmes, so many Vietnamese films are set to be released during Tet after a two-year delay.

They emphasised that Hanoi is one of the largest markets, which makes a significant contribution to the total national revenue.

As such, the reopening of cinemas in Hanoi will help local productions reach the capital city’s audiences and help movie producers overcome financial difficulties and continue growing.

Currently, movie theatres in many localities, including Ho Chi Minh City, have reopened, while those in Hanoi have remain closed for the past two years.
