Speaking at the second discussion of the G20 summit, which was held online on November 22, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc called on G20 members to create new foundations for development including transitioning to digital and circular economies and focusing on green growth to cope with climate change and bridge developmental gaps.
He urged the G20 to help developing countries achieve sustainable development through effective integration into the global supply chain, and market access, and soft credit. Enhanced cooperation is required in climate change response and reducing pollution.
The Vietnamese leader highlighted how the Covid-19 pandemic has pushed back the world's development by decades and plunged tens of millions of people into poverty. To overcome such challenges, he said, nations need to cooperate, build trust, and share responsibilities and move towards sustainable development to ensure "no country or person is left behind."
