Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai and Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang attended the event. The two-phase 41.2 million USD upgrade project in the Central Highlands province was launched last September. After renovations, the airport runway was widened and lengthened in order to accommodate the A321, Boeing 737, and other aircraft of similar size. In addition, the terminal was renovated to handle up to 600 passengers during the peak period. Pleiku Airport is the only one of its kind in Gia Lai and the neighbouring province of Kon Tum in the Central Highlands.
