In early 2025, a provincial steering committee was established to oversee the initiative. Detailed plans have been issued, with clear responsibilities and quotas assigned to districts, towns and communes, alongside specific progress milestones.
As of mid-2025, Phu Tho has completed 1,578 houses for disadvantaged groups, including poor and near-poor households, families with meritorious service to the country, and ethnic minorities. These include 1,113 newly-built homes and 465 repaired houses, with total funding exceeding 200 billion VND (8 million USD). All new constructions meet the safety standards.
Phung Khanh Tai, Standing Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, emphasised that eliminating substandard houses is a key social welfare priority for 2025, with the province mobilising both public funds and community support.
However, progress faces hurdles, including legal land issues, financial constraints among vulnerable households, and administrative delays in data collection and aid disbursement.
To meet its deadline, the province is guiding localities to accelerate progress, streamline procedures, and resolve on-the-ground difficulties.
According to the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, there remain 1,669 substandard houses need to be eradicated, including 260 to be newly built and 559 to be repaired.
The province aims to complete the allocation of financial aid for households with legal land plots by June 30, and for those facing land or special difficulties by September 30.
