VTV.vn - In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Capital City’s Liberation, the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee, government and people always hold pride and gratitude for people who were undeterred by hardship and sacrifice.

On October 3, the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Fatherland Front Committee held a meeting to express gratitude to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, veterans, former public security officers, former youth volunteers, and policy beneficiary families who contributed directly to the capital city’s liberation during the resistance against the French colonialists, in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Capital City’s Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 - 2024).

At the meeting, the attendees watched a documentary revisiting the events from 70 years ago when the army and people of the capital city achieved victory in the resistance against the French colonial invasion. It served as a reminder to today's generation of one of the most glorious chapters in history, a vivid embodiment of revolutionary heroism and the intellectual strength of Vietnam in the struggle for national liberation.

Honoured to represent the soldiers who took part in the capital city’s liberation, veteran Le Van Tinh, former soldier of Regiment No.102 (also the Capital Regiment) and a member of the Thanh Xuan District Veterans’s Association, shared that it was a great honour and pride for them, who participated in the liberation of the capital, to now be residents of this beautiful capital - a city of peace. He expressed deep emotion and offered boundless respect and sorrow to the heroic fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the independence and freedom of the nation and the happiness of the people.

Speaking at the meeting, Nguyen Thi Tuyen, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee, stressed that at this solemn and deeply meaningful gathering, with boundless gratitude, Hanoi’s people pay tribute to President Ho Chi Minh, the beloved leader of the nation as well as the heroic fallen soldiers and those who bravely sacrificed their lives for the cause of national construction and defence.

"We also express our gratitude to the revolutionary veterans, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, fallen soldiers, veterans, former public security officers, and former youth volunteers who contributed to the success of the takeover and liberation of Hanoi 70 years ago, as well as to the cause of the socialist Vietnam construction and safeguarding", she added.

The Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee affirmed that 70 years have passed, the great stature and historical significance of the Capital City’s Liberation Day on October 10, 1954, will always be a tremendous source of encouragement for the Party, government, armed forces, and people of Hanoi in the mission of building, protecting, and developing the capital and the country.

She noted that the veterans, former public security officers, and former youth volunteers who directly participated in the takeover and liberation of the capital and attended today's gathering are truly exemplary figures and a source of pride for the capital. They serve as vivid proof of a strong and effective influence on nurturing and educating the revolutionary patriotism for the generations of Hanoians, especially the younger generation.
