He met with the diplomats, whose term is from 2016 to 2019, at the Party Central Committee’s headquarters in Hanoi on August 27.
The event was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Hoang Binh Quan.
The ambassadors and heads of representative agencies voiced their honour to take the positions. They promised to do their utmost to fulfill the assigned tasks, thereby reinforcing Vietnam’s friendship and cooperation with other countries and international organisations while optimising all resources for the national development.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said to successfully perform their duties, the diplomats have to thoroughly grasp the Party and State’s guidelines and viewpoints, especially on diplomacy. They must have an in-depth understanding of the countries they will work in, from politics, economics, culture to geography, so as to stay ready under any circumstances.
He asked each diplomat to be steadfast in the national independence and socialism and to work for the sake of the homeland.
They must also continually make self-improvement to promote their knowledge and firmness and deserve to be a representative of the country, people and culture of Vietnam, the leader added.
