VTV.vn - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, who is also Secretary of the Central Military Commission, inspected the training for combat readiness at the National Shooting School Region 1 on November 19.

Speaking at the working session with leaders of the Ministry of National Defence after inspection, the Party leader praised achievements the ministry has made in directing the implementation of military, defence and defence diplomacy tasks over the past time.

Amid complicated regional and world situation, increasing activities by hostile forces to sabotage the Party, State and army, and continuous natural disasters, officers and soldiers have united with the people to overcome difficulties and fulfill all the assigned tasks, he said.

Especially, the army effectively worked with other armed forces and local authorities to ensure the absolute safety for the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week in the central city of Da Nang on November 6-11.

Regarding the upcoming missions, Party General Secretary Trong asked the Party Organisation of the military to thoroughly grasp the situation and give timely advice to the Party and State regarding defence-security, and socio-economic development strategies while speeding up the building of a revolutionary, regular, elite and modern people’s army.

Military officers and soldiers must continuously consolidate political firmness, actively study to master modern weapons, raise vigilance and sharpen combat will, he said, stressing the need to prevent “self-evolution” and “self-transformation” among them.

The army needs to closely work with the police force, Party committees and authorities at all levels, mass organisations and people to resolutely struggle against all sabotage plots by hostile forces, maintain political security, social order and safety, and ensure the absolute safety for important political events and major celebrations, he stressed.
