In regard to the outcomes of his official US visit, Party General Secretary Trong said the two sides discussed specific measures to step up bilateral co-operation, adopted a joint vision statement and compared notes on issues related to religious and human rights. He praised the remarkable contributions by the overseas Vietnamese community to the nation's socio-economic development, renewal process and its enhanced international profile. He also spoke glowingly of their integration into and positive contributions to the host country and urged them to continue promoting Vietnam’s tradition of unity and intensifying the popularisation of Vietnam to international friends.
