Party and State leaders welcome Chinese State Councilor
VTV.vn - The Vietnamese Party, State and people attach much importance to reinforcing and enhancing the friendly neighbourliness and comprehensive cooperation with China, President Tran Dai Quang has said.

This is also one of the top priorities in the external policies of Vietnam, the President told Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi at a reception in Hanoi on June 27.

He said the two countries’ relations have developed positively and gained significant outcomes over the past time. He hailed the outcomes of the ninth meeting of the steering committee for Vietnam – China cooperation and suggested the two sides implement seriously the agreements reached by their leaders while increasing political trust via high-level contacts and all-level friendly exchanges.

The State leader also urged both nations to step up communications on bilateral friendship and win-win collaboration, as well as carry out effectively economic-trade-investment deals and enact measures to develop bilateral trade links towards balance and sustainability. He welcomed China to increase its investment in major projects that apply advanced science and technology.

Regarding maritime issues, the President recommended the two sides follow earnestly the agreements and perceptions reached by their leaders, including the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues. He called upon both nations to effectively control any disputes without any actions that complicate the issues whilst promoting negotiation mechanisms on marine matters and establishing a search and rescue mechanism in the Gulf of Tokin. It is necessary to implement fully and effectively the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and soon build a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC), he said, adding that settling disputes through peaceful means and in line with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), is equally important to maintain peace, stability in the East Sea and the region.

The Chinese official reported the positive outcomes that the two countries reached at the ninth meeting of the steering committee for bilateral cooperation. He confirmed that the Chinese Party and Government are persistent in developing friendly neighbourliness and mutually beneficial cooperation with Vietnam. China is also willing to partner with Vietnam to implement effectively significant common perceptions between their leaders, he said.

He recommended the two sides maintain high-level exchanges, enhance pragmatic coordination across fields, and promote collaboration between ministries, sectors and localities, in addition to addressing maritime disputes satisfactorily, to boost bilateral relations in a stable, healthy and sustainable manner.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong hosted a reception for Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi on the same day. During the reception, the Vietnamese Party Chief suggested enhancing political trust, promoting and improving the efficiency of cooperation between the two nations in all fields in the time ahead. He also stressed the need to foster people-to-people exchange and satisfactorily resolve issues related to the East Sea in conformity with international law and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), working towards the early formulation of a code of conduct (COC) in the waters, towards maintaining peace, stability in the region and the world.

For his part, the Chinese guest informed the host about outcomes of the meeting. The Chinese Party and State treasure relations with Vietnam, Yang stated, adding that his country wishes to enhance exchange of high-ranking visits and experience sharing, and boost links in economics, defence-security, diplomacy, culture, sci-technology and people-to-people exchange between the two nations.

He asserted that China is determined to work with Vietnam to effectively implement agreements reached by senior leaders of the two Parties and States, thus making the bilateral relations stronger and more sustainable.

The Vietnamese Party leader spoke highly of the outcomes of the meeting. He said the two sides should further promote the role played by the steering committee in effectuating the common perceptions reached by senior Party and State leaders of the two countries, contributing to bolstering the Vietnam-China traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership.
