This is a unique rite observed by the locals on Ly Son Island in lunar March, to pay tribute to those that served as sailors in the Paracel and Spratly archipelagos hundreds of years ago.
A similar event was organized every year in the past when the fleet set sail to assert and protect national sovereignty over the islands.
The festival also aims to raise awareness among people about the importance of upholding the country's maritime sovereignty.
