2016 Children's Heart programme calling for organisations and individuals to join hands to support surgeries for disadvantaged children under the age of 16 suffering from congenital heart diseases.
After just over two hours of the live television programme, its organising committee received donations worth a total of more than VND20 billion (US$900,000) for free heart surgeries for disadvantaged children.
After running for eight years, the programme has received active support from many organisations, units and philanthropists with a total amount of over VND100 billion (US$4.5 million). Thanks to donations, it has offered screening for early detection to children with congenital heart diseases and timely support for heart surgeries for more than 3,000 children across the country.
Speaking at the launch, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh expressed her sincere thanks to all donors and supporters of the programme over the last eight years.

The launch witnessed donations being made by sending a text message to switchboard 1408, which reached VND2.7 billion. This number will continue to increase until the end of the campaign by November 13.
Readers can contribute by sending text messages with the syntax “TTCE” to switchboard 1408. Each message will contribute VND18,000 to the fund.

Initiated by VTV and Viettel eight years ago, the Children's Heart programme set the goal to perform surgeries for 3,000 children in difficult circumstances with congenital heart diseases and carry out screening for 30,000 underprivileged children by 2020.
