The figure was announced at a conference on November 15 to the review the initiative.
According to Vice Chair of the Vietnam Association for the Blind Dinh Viet Anh, the white canes have helped blind people move safely and integrate into social life with confidence.
Since its establishment, the VAB has worked hard to rehabilitate blind people and provide them with white canes, but this activity is still struggling due to limited resources.
Aware of such demand, the MPI launched an initiative in 2019, calling for the community to join hands in bringing happiness to blind people with white canes.
Currently, the MPI is ordering the Hanoi Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Hospital to produce another 8,350 canes to continue donating to blind people throughout the country.
Speaking at the conference, Anh expressed her wish that the MPI, the Vietnam National Committee for People with Disabilities, local authorities, organisations, enterprises and individuals will continue supporting the purchase of white canes for blind people.
