VTV.vn - More than 10.4 billion VND was raised at a fundraising programme, held in Ho Chi Minh City on January 11, to provide a warm and happy lunar New Year (Tet) festival for disadvantaged farmers within the city.

The event, co-organised by the Ho Chi Minh City Television and the municipal Farmers’ Association, aims to present 2,000 gift packages and production tools, 820 scholarships and 100 savings books for poor farmers and disadvantaged members of the association.

It also seeks to construct five social houses and provide social welfare payments, among 20 children who became orphans due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at the event, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City Farmers’ Association Nguyen Thanh Xuan said the programme has been held since 2008, ahead of lunar New Year, to share difficulties with farmers in need and help bring them into a new spring full of warmth, joy and happiness.

It has attracted the enthusiastic participation and donations from businesses, authorities, political and social organisations, as well as benefactors throughout the city.
