In Can Tho City, the one-million-hectare high-quality, low-emission rice programme is being implemented across 65 communes and wards, with more than 170 cooperative groups and cooperatives taking part. Around 76,000 hectares are covered this year.
To improve transparency, traceability and rice value, the city plans to issue growing area codes and move towards digital management, while expanding the programme to more than 171,000 hectares.
In An Giang province, the country's largest rice-growing locality, more than 159,000 hectares joined the programme in the recent winter-spring crop, producing over 1.2 million tonnes of qualified commercial rice. This provides a strong foundation for the province to double the programme area by 2030.
