Present at the event was Lao Party General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith, former Lao Party General Choummaly Sayasone, Secretary and President along with Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and National Assembly Chairwoman Pany Yathotou. The Vietnamese delegation at the ceremony was led by National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong.
Speaking at the event, Lao Party General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith noted that the Laos-Vietnam Friendship and Co-operation Treaty shows the strong determination to further develop the traditional friendship which was founded and fostered by late Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh and late Lao President Kaysone Phomvihan and President Souphanouvong.
The Laos people always remember and are sincerely grateful for the huge, valuable and effective support provided by the party, state and people of Vietnam, to the party, state and people of Laos. The blood and sweat of Vietnamese soldiers and experts blends with the sweat and blood of Lao soldiers and people becoming an invaluable asset in the hearts of the two countries' people, a noble symbol of the special solidarity and fighting allegiance between the two countries, a rarity in the history of relations between nations throughout the world.
The Lao leader emphasised that over the past 40 years, the treaty has become an important political and legal foundation for the unceasing reinforcement and development of the bilateral relations, serving national construction and defence in each country.
Amid global uncertainties and developmental requirements of each country, Laos and Vietnam give utmost priority to working together to incessantly strengthen and bring the Lao-Vietnamese relationship to even greater heights.
