Northern region to turn cold from January 28

VTV.vn - The northern region will face a new wave of cold air from January 28, with lowest temperatures rangingfrom 9-12C while the temperatures in mountainous areaswill drop to below 5C, according to the national weather forecast agency.

A cold air is moving southwards and is forecast to affect northern mountainous provinces from the morning of January 28, hitting other areas in the north and north central region in the afternoon of the same day.

From the night of January 27, north-eastern provinces will see small rains while northern and central provinces will face moderate rains and showers from January 28.

The lowest temperatures are forecast at 12-15C innorthern delta provinces, 9-12C in mountainous provinces and below 5C in several high mountainous areas. Central provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue will also encounter cold air with lowest temperatures from 15-18C.

The capital city of Hanoi is expected to see rain on the night of January 27 and on January 28 with lowest temperatures from 13-15C.

Ships are warned of strong winds anticipated up to level 8 and high waves of up to 5m in the Gulf of Tonkin and the East Sea (South China Sea).
