The event was organised by the Khanh Hoa Provincial Women's Union, the People's Committee of Nha Trang City; the Management Board of Nha Trang Bay; The Vietnam-Russia Tropical Centre and the Global Environment Facility-UNDP Small Grants Programme (UNDP/GEF SGP) in Vietnam.
The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility-UNDP Small Grants Programme (UNDP/GEF SGP) for implementation in 2023 and 2024.
The conference to kick off the project featured the participation of more than 80 delegates, representatives of agencies and departments in the province and city; scientific research institutions; local businesses and communities whose livelihoods are closely linked to the Hon Mun marine area.
According to Nguyen Quynh Nga, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Khanh Hoa province, the project aims at three main goals: developing and implementing a public-private dialogue mechanism for environmental protection of Nha Trang Bay and coral reef conservation in the strictly protected Hon Mun subdivision, Nha Trang Bay; strengthening the cooperation between state agencies, the community and the private sector, in environmental protection and coral reef conservation in the strictly protected subdivision Hon Mun, Nha Trang Bay; and establishing sustainable livelihoods for the community living in the vicinity of this subdivision (Bich Dam residential group).
Speaking at the conference, Tran Hoa Nam, Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee emphasized, that coral reef conservation and sustainable development in the Hon Mun Sea area is an urgent priority, requiring proactive cooperation of the community, the private sector and government agencies.
At the same time, departments and localities in the province should closely coordinate with the project management board, to achieve the best results in coral reef conservation and sustainable development of the Hon Mun marine area, according to the Master Plan to 2030, on restoring Nha Trang Bay by the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province.
