The Nghe An provincial authorities held a ceremony to commemorate the 1310th anniversary of the Hoan Chau uprising (713-2013) and receive the Prime Minister’s decision on recognising King Mai Hac De Temple complex as a national special heritage site.

Led by national hero Mai Thuc Loan 1310 years ago, the Hoan Chau uprising overthrew the rule of the Tang Dynasty in the present-day Thanh Hoa Province and Nghe An Province, regaining independence for the nation after centuries of domination by northern feudalists. Mai Thuc Loan later became King Mai Hac De.

Located on the banks of Lam River in Nam Dan Town, the King Mai Hac De Temple complex includes a temple worshipping King Mai Hac De, his tomb, and his mother’s tomb.

The Prime Minister’s decision on recognising the King Mai Hac De Temple complex as a national special heritage site is not only a tribute to King Mai Hac De and his ancestors’ service to the country and its people but also an affirmation of the treasured historical and cultural value of the site.

It will establish a legal foundation for the preservation and promotion of the site’s values in the future.

On the occasion, the Nghe An provincial authorities announced the opening of the King Mai Hac De Temple Festival. Taking place until February 5, the festival features a wide range of activities, including a procession, a lion dance, art performances, a wrestling competition, and various folk games.
