Uterine fibroids are a very common disease among women. Studies indicate that 30% of women aged 30-50 have this disease while this ratio can reach 70-80% among women over 50.
The treatment of uterine fibroid by focused ultrasound that doesn't require surgery has been applied in over 40 countries worldwide. In Vietnam, obstetricians has begun using this technology in treatment of uterine fibroids.
Focused ultrasound or FUS is a non-invasive treatment for uterine fibroids. The MRI images give doctors the precise location of a uterine fibroid. While the MRI monitors the targeted fibroid and surrounding structures, the ultrasound transducer delivers focused sound waves into the fibroid. The physician directs a focused beam of energy through the patient's skin, superficial fat layer, and abdominal muscles to heat and destroy the fibroid tissue without damaging nearby tissue or the tissues that the beam passes through on its way to the target.
FUS - MRI technology has been certified as safe and effective by the US Food and Drug Administration and Vietnam's Ministry of Health. The use of FUS - MRI for treatment of uterine fibroids give patients a benefit of low risk of complications and short recovery time.
