Good news coming from the health sector. 86% of patients with lung cancer will be able to prolong their life for another 3 years, and nearly 100% of prostate cancer patients will have an extra 5 years to live if treated with proton radiation. This news was presented by the health department at the conference on "Applying Proton Radiation for cancer treatment" that took place in Hanoi this morning.
Proton radiation therapy is currently the best method for radiotherapy to reach end-stage tumors, which are usually resistant to all other common radiotherapy treatments such as Cobalt. It also has no side effects on other parts of the body.
According to statistics, positive signs have been seen in the rate of patients treated with this new method. In Vietnam, the burden of cancer is becoming more serious with about 126 thousand new cases and 94 thousand deaths each year.
