The National Assembly deputies pointed out that there was still waste in public investment, budget spending, and losses incurred by State enterprises.
“There are 63 provinces and cities but the country has 245 ports and 21 airports. Almost every province has or wants to have an airport or seaport. This reduces the overall benefit at both the national and regional levels”, Nguyen Ba Son - National Assembly Deputy from Da Nang City – said.
Concerning the process of economic restructuring, the National Assembly deputies also said it had not yet achieved the desired results.
“It is common that restructuring is considered essential, and yet we have not attracted the participation of society as a whole, especially in economic areas outside the Government”, Phung Van Hung - National Assembly Deputy from Cao Bang Province – said.
Also at the meeting, Deputy Tran Cong Thuat from Quang Binh Province raised questions about the consequences of the environmental incidents caused by Formosa. “The 500 million USD of Formosa compensation was based on fact or based on a negotiated agreement? If the money is not enough to compensate locals, who will pay the rest? Or are the local people expected to overcome these problems themselves? So far, no one has come forward to take responsibility for the illegal discharge by Formosa”, he asked.
