On the morning of September 28, the National Assembly Standing Committee approved a resolution for the administrative reorganisation of districts and communes in 13 provinces and cities in the 2023-2025 period.
In Quang Ninh Province, Dong Trieu City has been officially established from former Dong Trieu Town, maintaining its original status with an area of 395.950 km2 and a population of 249,000.
The NA Standing Committee also approved the formation of four wards under Dong Trieu City, including Binh Duong, Thuy An, Binh Khe, and Yen Duc.
The establishment of the city aligns with Quang Ninh’s overall economic and social development plan, with a vision toward 2030. From 2021 to 2023, Dong Trieu’s average economic growth rate reached 14% and the average income per capita was over 163 million VND in 2023, 1.6 times higher than the national average.
Quang Ninh remains the province with the most cities in Vietnam, including Hạ Long, Uong Bi, Cam Pha, Mong Cai, and now Dong Trieu. Additionally, Quang Ninh is in the process of preparing documents to propose the establishment of Quang Yen City by 2025.
