VTV.vn - The US Embassy in Vietnam in collaboration with the Art Builds Community (ABC) organisation on January 15 inaugurated a mural at the American Club in downtown Hanoi aimed at raising public awareness of environmental protection.

The project began in December 2020 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of US-Vietnam diplomatic ties.

Addressing the event, US Ambassador Daniel J. Kritenbrink emphasised that the project, themed “Clean Environment – Green Planet”, is a testament to the cooperation and friendly relations between the two countries fostered over the last 25 years.

It also shows both countries attach great importance to and can work together in sustainably protecting the environment and responding to climate change, he added.

The ambassador cited the adage “A picture is worth a thousand words”, saying the mural conveys a message that everyone has a shared responsibility for protecting the planet and its environment.

Given the high level of air pollution in major cities in Vietnam, the US Embassy is currently working with Vietnamese partners to raise awareness of the dangers of air pollution, as well as people’s choices for clean energy sources in order to minimise pollution, he stated.

ACB founder Ta Thi Thu Huong said that the project was initiated in 2020 and jointly designed by Vietnamese-American artist Christine Nguyen and four Vietnamese artists. Covering an area of 100 square metres, the 3D mural features vivid images of endangered species of fauna and flora, thus highlighting the importance of environmental protection.

She voiced her hope that the mural will be a new cultural and arts destination in Hanoi.
